Studio experiments

Small studies we keep apart from client work: not products, case studies or claims about delivered systems. Each one is ready to touch.

Symbol in type

The AxedStack symbol, extruded from the production vector paths and drawn as characters. Turn it as far as you like, in any direction: round to its back, over the top, edge on. Left alone, it drifts slowly.

The AxedStack symbol, extruded from its vector paths and set in type.

Drag to turn the symbol.Focused, the arrow keys turn and tilt it, Shift with Left or Right rolls it, and Home resets it.

Surface tension

A large white shape and a small blue one share one blur-and-threshold filter, so where they meet a soft neck draws between them. Push the blue one into the white: it gives a little, then holds its ground.

Drag either shape. Focused, the arrow keys move it; hold Shift for longer steps.

A smoother caret

A text field whose caret glides to its new position. Type a new caption for the symbol study above; it stays on this page. On touch screens, while composing text and with reduced effects, the native caret takes over.

Changes stay on this page and disappear when you leave.

Techniques adapted from Skiper UI: the gooey filter and spring from Skiper UI 64 and the smooth caret from Skiper UI 106. The symbol study is an original reinterpretation of Skiper UI 14, drawn from the AxedStack vector paths.
